【KAMAKURA meet】ワイヤーアーティスト小川学「HAyU展」開催のお知らせ

2026年5月1日（金）から 5月 6日（水）まで、茨城県水戸市を拠点に活動するワイヤーアーティスト小川学による個展を開催します。茨城県の園芸農家で生まれ育った小川は、青年期に新たな挑戦を求めて東京や横浜のヘアサロンで約10年間美容師として経験を積みました。その後、家業を継ぐために実家に戻り、園芸農家として切り花の生産に従事。結婚後に子育てをする中で、動物園で子供と一緒に見た動物たちを再現できないかと、手元にあった園芸用の針金で動物のかたちを作ることを思いつき、初めてのワイヤーアートを手掛けます。最初は家族のために制作していましたが、次第にその独創性が注目を集めるようになり、現在ではワイヤーオブジェを中心に、テキスタイルやプロダクトデザイン、公共施設や店舗のディスプレイなども手掛け、国内外で幅広く活動しています。

金型や下書きなしの即興でワイヤーをオブジェに仕立てる小川の制作スタイルは、美容師時代のサロンワークで培った経験が活かされています。髪をカットするかのように、目・鼻・など顔のパーツの延長上にラインを描きながら立体を作りあげていく。この立体的な造形感覚は、壁がけの鹿の剥製をオマージュしたワイヤーアニマルヘッドシリーズを生み出しました。また、インテリア上のアートとして制作される小川の作品は、設置や移動を考慮した軽さも魅力です。空間の余白にそっと寄り添うエアリーなアートは、まるでヘアアレンジをするかのように、その日の気分に合わせて空間の変化を楽しむことができます。

本展では、アニマルヘッドを中心に動物モチーフ作品をご紹介いたします。ユニークな感性でつくられたワイヤーアートをお楽しみください。

HAyU - Manabu Ogawa - Exhibition

From Friday, May 1 to Wednesday, May 6, 2026, we will hold a solo exhibition by wire artist Manabu Ogawa, who is based in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

Born and raised in a family of horticultural farmers in Ibaraki, Ogawa spent about ten years working as a hairstylist in salons in Tokyo and Yokohama during his youth, seeking new challenges. He later returned home to take over the family business, engaging in the production of cut flowers as a horticultural farmer. After getting married and raising children, he was inspired by the animals he saw with his child at the zoo and wondered if he could recreate them. Using gardening wire he had on hand, he created his first wire artwork in the form of animals. Initially made for his family, his works gradually gained attention for their originality. Today, he works primarily with wire objects while also engaging in textile and product design, as well as creating displays for public facilities and shops, with activities spanning both Japan and abroad.

Ogawa’s creative style—shaping wire into objects through improvisation without molds or sketches—draws on the experience he gained from salon work during his time as a hairstylist. Like cutting hair, he builds three-dimensional forms by extending lines from facial features such as the eyes and nose. This sculptural sensibility led to his Wire Animal Head series, an homage to mounted deer heads. His works, created as interior art pieces, are also appealing for their lightness, making installation and relocation easy. These airy artworks gently complement the negative space of a room, allowing for changes in atmosphere to suit one’s mood—much like arranging one’s hair.

This exhibition will feature animal-themed works, with a focus on the Animal Head series. We hope you enjoy the wire art created through his unique sensibility.

小川学｜ワイヤーアーティスト 1976年茨城県生まれ。東京・横浜で美容関係の仕事を経て茨城に帰郷し園芸農家となる。 2015年ワイヤーアートの制作インテリア上のアートとしてワイヤーアニマルヘッドという独自のスタイルをつくる。 2017年青参道アートフェアーで作家デビューワイヤーオブジェの制作に限らず、テキスタイル、プロダクトデザインや公共施設や店舗のディスプレイなど、国内外で幅広く活動中。

Manabu Ogawa | Wire Artist

Born in 1976 in Ibaraki Prefecture. After working in the beauty industry in Tokyo and Yokohama, he returned to Ibaraki and became a horticultural farmer. In 2015, he began creating wire art and developed his own distinctive style of “wire animal heads” as interior art pieces. In 2017, he made his debut as an artist at the Aoyama Art Fair. In addition to wire objects, he is actively involved in a wide range of fields both in Japan and internationally, including textile work, product design, and displays for public facilities and retail spaces.
