KAMAKURA meet

From Saturday, October 17 to Monday, October 26, 2026, KAMAKURA meet will present a chair exhibition by chair maker Atsushi Kojima, based in Tanba City, Hyogo Prefecture.

Kojima moved to the United Kingdom in his teenage years, where he trained at a Windsor chair workshop. Today, he creates Windsor chairs as a dedicated chair maker. The Windsor chair originated in late 17th-century England, emerging from the everyday lives of ordinary people before later spreading to the upper classes. Its simple yet warm and distinctive form continues to be cherished by many people today.

This will be Kojima’s first exhibition at KAMAKURA meet. The exhibition will feature a variety of carefully handcrafted Windsor chairs and stools, each with its own unique character and expression.

We invite you to visit Kamakura during the gentle autumn season, experience the works firsthand, and enjoy discovering a chair that feels just right for you.

We sincerely look forward to welcoming you.

This will be my first exhibition in Kamakura.

I am truly looking forward to having the opportunity to share my work with everyone in this new setting.

I have been making Windsor chairs for over 30 years, and even now, the joy I find in creating chairs has never faded. Through many years of dedicated practice, I have gradually come to understand the unique appeal of Windsor chairs more deeply. In recent years, I have also begun exploring the simple yet powerful designs found in early Windsor chairs.

For this exhibition, I will present chairs carefully crafted one by one, drawing upon the experience and knowledge I have gained throughout my journey.

In this new place of Kamakura, I hope you will take the time to see, touch, and sit in my Windsor chairs, and experience the pleasure they bring.

I look forward to meeting you.

Atsushi Kojima
