2025年10月31日（金）から11月10日（月）まで、長野県御代田の gallery fumoto にて、クラフト作家 上原かなえによる個展「麦わらの祈り ― Forms of Light HIMMELI – Light, structure, patterns」を開催いたします。
当ギャラリーと同じ地域である御代田町を拠点に活動する上原かなえは、自らライ麦を育て、その麦藁を素材に、北欧の伝統装飾「ヒンメリ」を制作しています。幾何学的な立体に仕立てられた藁のモビールは、空間に静かに浮かび、時の流れに柔らかなゆらぎを添えてくれます。「ヒンメリ」は、北欧ではホリデーシーズンの装飾として古くから親しまれ、幸運や豊穣を願う縁起物として大切にされてきました。
本企画展では、作家が一つひとつ手作業で組み上げた麦藁のヒンメリやオーナメントをご紹介いたします。天然素材と幾何学の造形物が織りなす穏やかな世界観をお楽しみください。
なお、本展は御代田での最後の企画展となります。紅葉に彩られた秋の風景とともに、心静かなひとときをお過ごしいただければ幸いです。皆さまのご来場を心よりお待ちしております。

Craft Artist Kanae Uehara Exhibition "Prayers of Straw — Forms of Light HIMMELI – Light, Structure, Patterns"
We are pleased to announce that gallery fumoto in Miyota, Nagano, will host a solo exhibition by craft artist Kanae Uehara from Friday, October 31 to Monday, November 10, 2025.Titled “Prayers of Straw — Forms of Light HIMMELI – Light, Structure, Patterns,” the exhibition will showcase Uehara’s delicate and meditative straw himmeli works.
Based in Miyota—the same region as our gallery—Kanae Uehara cultivates her own rye and uses the straw to create himmeli, traditional Nordic ornaments. These geometric mobiles quietly float in space, adding a gentle sway to the passage of time. In Scandinavia, himmeli have long been cherished during the holiday season as symbols of good fortune and bountiful harvests.
This exhibition will present a variety of hand-assembled straw himmeli and ornaments, each crafted with care. We invite you to experience the serene world formed by the interplay of natural materials and geometric structures.

やさしく彩る小さな灯りとなりますように。 After completing my exhibition in Helsinki this September, a form of prayer has crossed the sea and returned once again to the foot of Mt. Asama.
The rye grown in Miyota is breathing once more in the light of autumn.
Seasons turn, and light takes on a new form.
Each piece, born from the cycle of nature,
is a small light—gentle and warm—
to quietly illuminate the coming holiday season.

上原かなえ | クラフト作家
長野県御代田町在住。 フィンランドから繋ぐライ麦を自ら育て、その麦わらを素材に北欧の伝統装飾「ヒンメリ」を制作。自然の循環と祈りのかたちを見つめながら、幾何学と手工芸の調和を探求している。

Based in Miyota, Nagano Prefecture, Kanae Uehara grows her own rye, a tradition she connects back to Finland, and uses its straw to create himmeli—a traditional Nordic ornament. Through her work, she explores the harmony of geometry and handcraft, reflecting on the cycles of nature and forms of prayer.
